Born in Moscow. A graduate of the Russian Academy of
Theatre Arts (RATI - GITIS) trained as a theatre historian, critic
and theatre business manager.
While still a student, she began studying theatre for children,
taking part in sociology surveys of audiences of theatres for
children and the youth.
Ms. Medkova was on the staff of Theatre Union of the Russian
Federation, Department for Theatres for Children, and took a three
year post-graduate course in RATI - GITIS.
Since 1995 she has been Executive Secretary of the Russian
centre of ASSITEJ.
Since 2008 she has headed the International Department of the RF
Theatre Union, an umbrella organization for the Russian national
centres of ASSITEJ, UNIMA, AITA and OISTAT.
Ms. Medkova has initiated many international projects supported
by the European Commission.
The founder of the information portal RTLB (Russian Theatre Life
in Brief) in Russian and English, a gateway of news about Russian
theatres complete with a data base on all theatre festivals in the
Russian Federation.
The initiator and supervisor of the following programmes
currently implemented in Russia:
- Sociology studies of theatre for children and the youth;
- Russia's festival movement and its influence on local
communities;
- State support of Russian theatres for children.
