Vigdís has a four year degree in Drama and Theatre Studies from
the University of Kent at Canterbury (England), with an emphasis on
directing/devising.
She has been a practicing freelance theatre director in her
native country Iceland for fifteen years and has directed plays at
the National Theatre of Iceland as well as with several independent
professional theatres. Her portfolio includes plays for young

Vigdís has been Head of the Education department at the National
Theatre of Iceland since 2002. The department focuses on promoting
drama and theatre in schools, producing teacher-orientated support
material for productions and finding new innovative ways of
involving young people in theatre, such as writing competitions and
festivals. Amongst other things, Vigdís has piloted and managed a
huge national theatre festival for young people
called Þjóðleikur, which is currently in its second cycle.
Vigdís is also an adjunct at the Iceland Academy of the Arts,
where she gives lectures and workshops on theatre, drama pedagogy
and innovative teaching methods.
Vigdís is the chairperson of ASSITEJ Iceland.
