The I International Dance Congress for Young Audiences took place in the Spanish city of Granada from the 5th to the 7th of July. Organized by ASSITEJ Spain and Young Dance Network, the event was a meeting point for professionals from various countries around the world.
There was a debate on the situation of dance for children and young people for three days. The audience agreed on the need to give greater visibility to this genre. In addition, the meeting has served to stablish the base of an international network with the participation of professionals from around the world, the Young Dance Network.
Choreographer Jack Timmermans and researcher Fátima Anllo gave lectures on dance for children and young people. The attendants could also learn with prestigious professionals in the workshops of dramaturgy, taught by Mijke Harmsen and the professional dance workshop, by De Stilte. People of ages were introduced to dance with the Family Workshop given by Sanja Tropp Frühwald. In addition, they could enjoy the shows of the companies a k entrepôt, de Stilte and Chameleon Company.
This was the first meeting held in Spain to talk about dance for children and young people. Connections and contacts have been established between professionals. We will continue to work together with the Young Dance Network aiming quality performing arts accessible to all children and young people in the world.
