Mattias Andersson appointed Artistic Director of the Royal Dramatic Theatre!

🌍 Stockholm, SWE

Mattias Andersson has of March 2020 been appointed the new artistic director of Swedish National Theatre – Dramaten or the Royal Dramatic Theatre. Mattias, well-known playwright, director and artistic director of Backa Teater in Gothenburg, is not the first practitioner in Sweden coming from the field of TYA to the ”adult world” (Måns Lagerlöf was the first when he was appointed artistic director of Riksteatern), but with Dramaten being the most prestigious theatre in Sweden, this is still a landmark in the development of Swedish performing arts.

Mattias’ plays have been performed at venues such as Stockholm City Theatre, The Royal Dramatic Theatre of Stockholm, Göteborg City Theatre, Malmö City Theatre and in countries including Denmark, Germany, Russia, Norway, Finland, Romania and Serbia. Among many prizes and awards Mattias was awarded with the Swedish Prix d´ASSITEJ in 2016 and was then nominated for and won the ASSITEJ Award for Artistic Excellence given at the Congress in Cape Town in 2017.
