We are happy to announce the call for international performances for Bibu and the ASSITEJ Artistic Gathering 2022!

Bibu and ASSITEJ Artistic Gathering 2022 acknowledges Indigenous peoples of the past, present and future worldwide as the custodians, inheritors and practitioners of unique cultures, worldviews and relations to land and environments. The Indigenous peoples have retained social, cultural, economic and political characteristics that are distinct from those of the dominant societies in which they live. Despite their cultural differences, Indigenous peoples from around the world share common problems related to the protection of their rights as distinct peoples.

In an effort to create a linking network between the world’s indigenous cultures, Bibu and the AAG 2022 aims to enhance international visibility for Indigenous people.

For the international part, the Board of Directors will welcome innovative international applications that are visioned, produced and creatively led by Indigenous Performing Artists.

We want to create an international platform thus drawing attention to the breadth of contemporary Indigenous performances — with works spanning from theatre, dance, storytelling/storysong and multidisciplinary performance art with a combination of both cultural and contemporary artistic expressions.

We invite applications of performances coming from or being produced by and with Indigenous Peoples and being directed towards an audience of children, youth and families.

Read more at the Bibu web-site about Indigenous performances, about the criterion and how to apply. Applications can be submitted no later than October 1st 2021.

    Go to the application form

    The Selection Committee

The international performances for the biennal 2022 will be selected by an international committee consisting of six artists and leaders from a global representation of Indigenous Peoples:

    Alice Chiang
    Denise Bolduc
    Jacob Boehme
    Jefferson J. Dirks Korkee
    Niclas Malmcrona
    Åsa Simma

    🌍 Online
    🗓 9 November 2020

Swedstage is the opportunity to see and experience the very best of Swedish performing arts for children, youth and adults.

ASSITEJ Sweden and Scensverige have decided to suspend Swedstage 2020 in the form we are used to. Instead, we will arrange a digital showcase program on November 9th: Swedstage Online.

We will show the breadth of Swedish performing arts through a number of clips from eight current selected productions, as well as a talk ”Create or Decrease? – how can art defy shrinking freedom?” – a conversation about freedom of speech and democracy with Swedish and foreign guests.

More information will be posted on www.swedstage.se.

ASSITEJ Sweden and Bibu received altogether 68 applications from all over the world and the board of ASSITEJ Sweden selected 16 participants. The selection process was not easy. In the selection process we have taken a number of aspects into consideration and we have ended up with participants with a diversity in experience, background and professions and they represent all continents.

For the 2020 Next Generation Residency we plan to work with ”placemaking” as a theme. Placemaking is a multi-faceted approach to the planning, design and management of public spaces. Placemaking capitalizes on a local community’s assets, inspiration, and potential, with the intention of creating public spaces that promote people’s health, happiness, and well-being. We want to turn the residency into a research of what this can mean to and how it relates to our work within performing arts for children and youth.

Bibu takes place from May 13th to 16th and more for information: https://bibu.se/en
