Catalogue of Scripts
WELCOME TO A WORLD OF SCRIPTS!
The aims of the Script Catalogue are to:
- celebrate excellence in writing for young audiences worldwide
- establish a body of international classics
- make access to plays for young audiences easy for producers around the world
Jeremy Turner and EC colleagues set up the script catalogue during 2002-2005. Now a team from the UK has looked at the catalogue again, to update it so as to take advantage of the new website design.
We have tried to make it simpler for Centres to add more plays, and easier for anyone to search the catalogue for what they want. Whenever possible there will be an extract from a play to read online.
To maintain the quality and integrity of the catalogue we propose the following guidelines for selection:
- Plays must have been produced by a professional theatre for young audiences
- Each Centre may list up to 20 plays
- Each Centre may decide its own criteria for selection, beyond the play being excellent, but the selection criteria and process must be stated. For example; the play is internationally known, is representative of a typical national style, draws on national culture, has won a national prize, has had most productions by different companies, is the most successful in the country over the last 30 years, etc.
- Centres should include a wide range of writers and plays from different publishing houses and include classics and new plays
- When a Centre has listed 20 plays and wishes to add more plays, some of the old plays must be removed
We hope that all ASSITEJ Centres will select and add plays so that the web catalogue can reflect the richness and diversity of theatre writing for young audiences worldwide.
