ASSITEJ International Festival

ASSITEJ is a world network of theatre for children and young people established in 1965 by a global alliance in the field. Today, ASSITEJ is an international network of theatre for, by, and with children and young people linking thousands of individuals, theatres , and organizations through national centres in more than 75 countries on all 6 continents.

“ASSITEJ International Festival” is a designation with the purpose of promoting theatre for children and young people worldwide through the recognition of significant international festivals for professional theatre practitioners.

Festivals must apply for the designation to the ASSITEJ General Secretariat. ‘ASSITEJ International Festival’ is a designation given to festivals that meets the specification given below.

A festival must:

Include performances from at least 5 different countries

• Be at least 5 days long
• Include seminars, discussions, and/or workshops toward advancing artistry and resesarch
• Be primarily comprised of work for children and young people
• Be open and inclusive in its registration and selection process
• Provide professional treatment and adequate facilities for artists and guests
• Put the “ASSITEJ International Project” logo and information on the festival’s infornmation material.
• Provide organized information in both English and a common language for both performers and registrants
• Provide ASSITEJ with promotional material and press clippings for the archives
• Create opportunities for performing companies to meet and exchange ideas
• Apply for this designation at least six month prior to the festival

If a festival meets these qualifications, ASSITEJ would:

• Notify the festival within three months if it meets the qualifications
• List the festival on its web site
• Include the festival and its designation in the ASSITEJ Newsletter
• Provide logo
