As the new year starts, we wish for you, your family, and your companies happiness and growth. And we hope to see a lot of brilliant productions and activities of theatre for children and young people during our special edition of the festival: Kijimuna Festa 2012 / ASSITEJ International Meeting!

Next Generation Network
We are happy to announce that Kijimuna Festa 2012 / ASSITEJ International Meeting will be the venue to launch ASSITEJ's exciting project: Next Generation Network. We have sent out the brief information about the application in our last newsletter, but here is the message from the Next Generation members:

The Kijimuna: Next Generation Network

During the 3 years between 2008 and 2011, ASSITEJ organised the Next Generation project and trained 23 young artists from 17 countries to become next-generation international artists. While participating in festivals, forums and conferences held all over the world, and developing our professional skills and knowledge of theatre for young audiences we, the Next Generation artists, produced four international productions such as "My Mother Told Me Not To Stare" (A UK/Australia collaboration) and "Boon Wurrung Ngargee" (A Finland/Australia collaboration).  In addition, we also presented 5 research papers including "The Taboo of Sadness: Why Are We Scared to Let Our Children Be Scared?" and "The Manipulation of Innocence in Australian Stages". Furthermore, we have nine work-in-progress projects.

So, what do we mean by "next-generation international artist"? After 3 years of work, we have become passionate about the key issues of theatre for young audiences in our time. These are issues such as "baby dramas", "taboos", "new technologies" and "theatre by, for and/or with young people". We are fully aware of the way that theatre for young audiences has changed over the past few decades and understand the values of international collaborations, as well as the potential positive and negative effects of theatre on young audiences.

In order to share these essences, along with many others, and to discuss the future of theatre for young audiences with young artists all around the world, we have decided to launch our new project - Next Generation Network - at the Kijimura Festa 2012. We hope to invite younger artists to this event and help them meet like-minded people.

This will be a great opportunity to develop yourself as a next-generation international artist, so why not join us? If you desire to work internationally, want to know more about theatre for young audiences in other countries or feel dissatisfied by works of theatre for young audiences in your own countries, we would love to hear from you!

Please email applications by January 30th 2012 to ng.network@mail.com

We look forward to seeing you.

From all members of the Next Generation
