One by one two remarkable festivals will be held in Russia in April. These are 13th International Theatre Kingfestival in Veliky Novgorod (April 17-21), and the Harlequin festival/award in St. Petersburg (April 22-28).

At present Kingfestival founded in 1992 by the Novgorod theatre for children and youth “Mali” is recognized as one of the most vivid events of the theatre life in Russia’s north-western region. It has become very attractive to both Russian and foreign companies. This year the festival’s bill includes 13 drama, puppet, and music productions from Austria, Germany, Finland, France, Italy, Latvia and Russia. Aside from stage productions the participants offered other acts and projects. Among them are residence “New Faces of ASSITEJ”, international laboratory for theatre critics titled “Young Critics as the Theatre Future”, and display of Polish theatre posters. The Harlequin is the annual festival and Russian national award for the best theatre productions for children of the previous theatre season. It was founded in 2004 by Petersburg children’s music theatre “Zazerkalie”, Harlequin Charity Fund, and Theatre Union of Russia. This year 8 productions among 93 applicants were selected for competition. The winners will be announced on April 28. Harlequin’s web site (in Russian):
