GRASSHOPPERS FESTIVAL
🌍 Balbriggan, IRL
🗓 17 – 18 August 2019
Grasshoppers starts from an idea of Cliodhna Noonan – “the combination of an opportunity for a new early years arts festival and a chance to invite independent artists I have met from all over the world through the Small size Network was just fantastic”.
Local families had the chance to see new performances and workshops from Lithuania (Dalia Mikoliunaite and Raminta Sniaukstaite), Romania (Voicu Hetel and Lena Clera Coada from Teatrul al Podul Meu), Belgium (Joeri Wens) and Croatia (Puna Kuca Theater) which was a very special experience for this first time audience. In return, the local community explained the heritage of Balbriggan on a walking tour and the artists met local craftspeople and dignitaries.
In a community that is experiencing an explosion of diversity, Grasshoppers provided a moment of connection, a chance to celebrate parenthood and the positive creativity in the community.
The Festival aims to grow over the next 5 years in the region, to advocate for the arts in early childhood and to campaign for an arts space in the town. Grasshoppers is supported by Our Balbriggan and Fingal County Council.
1ST MEETING OF THE LATIN AMERICAN NETWORK OF SCENIC CREATION FOR EARLY YEARS
🌎 Spanish Cultural Center of Santiago de Chile, CHL
🗓 10-13 July 2019
La Lupe Teatro and Verdever (Argentina), Coletivo Antonia (Brazil), Compañía Aranwa, Teatro de Ocasión, Amnia and Teatro Pichiche (Chile), Teatro al Vacío, A la Deriva Teatro and Colectivo Teatro en Espiral (Mexico), all companies that dedicate their artistic proposals to the early childhood, met to share experiences, reflections and propose actions for the exercise of children’s cultural rights in their early years. Three days of meeting full of respect, dialogue and reflection where companies met, talked about their artistic projects, their visions of aesthetics, audiences and children’s rights. As a guest, Soledad Acuña, director of the Master’s Degree in Creativity and Pedagogical Innovation of the Finis Terrae University, made a presentation on Imaginative Education. This important action expands the NETWORK and is the beginning of a series of joint actions to continue growing and making visible the performing arts for early childhood and the exercise of the rights to art and culture of Latin American children. All the members of LA RED agreed to generate a second meeting in 2020 in Brasilia received by Coletivo Antonia. “At this time and in our contexts, working with and for children in their first years of life is a political and resistance decision. It is to give children the space that corresponds to them as citizens. It is an act of respect and inclusion for children in their first years of life. It is to accompany and promote the bond and communication between children and adults” Latin American Network of Scenic Creation for the First Years
