Description
SLUK – REUNION OF PUPPETEERS AND PUPPETRY THEATERS OF CROATIA
Reunion of Puppeteers and Puppetry Theaters of Croatia – SLUK – is a theater festival dedicated exclusively to puppetry art, specifically to puppetry art of Croatia. First SLUK was held in Opatija in 1969, as a continuation of existing festival stage in Šibenik, PIF and “Autumn in Opatija – Puppets for children and grown-ups”. Organizational and artistic foundations of the hence biannual festival were made in Osijek in 1977, when SLUK found its place under the sun in organization of Children’s Theater and other institutions of culture from Osijek. Since then, SLUK became a competitive festival, so attention was oriented towards artistic value of selected performances. Performances were done on different stages with participation from both Croatian and foreign performers. After a long period of time in which SLUK was held in Osijek, the 1991 edition saw SLUK taking place in Zadar and this was the last reunion in the former Yugoslavia. Since 1993 and the first SLUK in independent Croatia, reunions were held in Osijek, with one being held in Split and in Zadar respectively. This was due to the fact that theaters in Split and Zadar got new theater buildings. Festival passed through different organizational changes and became a place of reunion and presentation of the best puppetry accomplishments in the country.
