Starting to prepare for the event of ITYARN, the International Theatre for Young Audiences Research Network, at the ASSITEJ Congress in Cuba 2024, which has the theme "Voices of a New World: Legacy and Innovation in TYA", I started to reflect on how we are opening ourselves - especially in the context of Brazil - to these voices. Who is being listened to? Unfortunately, in our country, there is still a lot to be developed so that all children and young people can have equal space for expression and can effectively be heard.

I am an artist, as an artist (actor) it is more difficult to be a woman in Iran. We are not allowed to sing and dance on stage, we have to wear hijab on stage, even if our co-star is male, we cannot touch. We can't wear tight clothes, a male makeup artist is not allowed to put makeup on our faces, and we can't wear wigs. We should not move our body too much.

Since we launched our World Day of Theatre for Children and Young People campaign, which leads up to the 20th March, with the slogan #Takeachildtothetheatre, much has changed. For many children in many parts of the world it is not practical, possible or advised to take children to the theatre, and many children will be spending days indoors, shuttered away in their own homes, without opportunities for connection or for stimulation beyond what the television can provide.
